 Are you heading for the ditch?
Does it feel like the harder you try, the less profitable you become?

If you don't have a good strategy for getting (and keeping) customers, your business may be headed for the ditch.
Each year, hundreds of talented, smart, well-intentioned coaches are forced to give up because they can't make a living. What's worse, some of them run out of gas just as they're starting to gain some momentum. They're working harder and have more clients than ever--but unfortunately, "busy" doesn't always mean "profitable".

What makes one coach highly successful, while so many others struggle?

Here's the most important lesson I've learned through helping hundreds of coaches launch and grow their businesses: To get beyond that place where so many coaches give up, you must make yourself truly remarkable.

And that means being:
  • Distinctive, so that you stand out.
  • Memorable, so that your clients will think of you first when they have a problem you can help with.
  • Unique, so that you're beyond comparison.
  • Noteworthy, so that people are buzzing about you and your business.
  • Exceptional, so that you attract clients who value the quality of your services and products.
Above all, you need to leverage your remarkableness strategically to stand out from the crowd and consistently get, keep and grow the value of your customers.

Great--but how do you do that?

Well, to stand out in a remarkable way, you've got to become known for something; you need to become an expert. Not just an expert at coaching, although the more skilled you are, the better. By "expert coach", I mean an expert who also coaches.

An expert coach gains expertise in order to know what questions to ask. Unleash your passion; take a stand; become an authority on something that makes a difference! Learn everything you can about your specialty. Gather all the resources you can find; write and talk about it to anyone who will listen. Become known as THE expert coach for your chosen area.

Secondly, use the same winning strategy that other expert coaches use:
  • Focus on a niche that places a high value on your expertise.
  • Build an exceptional brand around your own unique method or approach.
  • Create profitable coaching products that are based on your signature program.
In my search for what successful coaches do differently from others, I found many expert coaches who use this approach. For example, here are three well-established, highly successful coaches who focused on a niche, developed a unique approach and then converted their expertise into a profitable line of products and programs:
  • Rhonda Britten, the Fearless Living Coach, has been a guest on Oprah several times; she also wrote a series of best selling books, starred in several reality TV shows in Great Britain and the US, and has a thriving coach training and certification program -- all based on her signature coaching program, Fearless Living.
     
  • CJ Hayden has built a thriving business around her signature program, the Get Clients Nowtm system. She's written several best-selling books, and has a very active online coaching community and a popular licensing program. Get Clients Nowtm is also the foundation for a lucrative product line of workshops, e-courses and audio programs.
     
  • Marcia Weider, America's Dream Coach, founded Dream Coach(c) University and hosts a huge virtual community with thousands of members. She's also a popular keynote speaker, a best selling author and was recently featured in a national television special. 
These pioneers figured things out as they went, learning from their mistakes along the way. They struggled with challenges that we don't even know about, and there were probably days when they wondered if it was worth it. (Now that they're on the other side of the struggle, I'm pretty sure they'd say it was DEFINITELY worth it!)

But does it really have to be that hard to succeed as a coach?

What if you could avoid the strain and struggle that they had to go through? What if you could accelerate things so you could see results in months, instead of the years that it might have taken them? Wouldn't it be great to have more business and more income without more stress and 'busyness'?

That's not wishful thinking -- it's a FACT!
